Pilates Chairs Explained: Wunda, Single-Pedal, Split-Pedal and High/Low

Peak Pilates MVe split-pedal fitness chair

Peak Pilates chairs come in several distinct configurations. Although the equipment is smaller than a reformer or Cadillac, choice of pedal, spring, handles and working height changes what an instructor can teach. This guide compares the SimWellness range for buyers planning a home practice, private teaching space or multi-station studio.

Which Pilates chair type is right for you?

Type What distinguishes it Shop an example
Single pedal One pedal surface moves together, simplifying the basic setup. MVe Single-Pedal Chair
Split pedal Pedal sections can work independently in suitable exercises, adding programming options. MVe Split-Pedal Chair
Split pedal plus handles Split-pedal layout with additional support points for appropriate exercises. MVe Split-Pedal with Handles
Classical Wunda Traditional compact chair format with classical construction and distinct working positions. Artistry Wunda Chair
High/low combination An adjustable high/low configuration intended for programmes that use more than one chair height. Artistry High/Low Chair

Single pedal vs split pedal

A single pedal makes sense when an instructor primarily teaches exercises using one coordinated pedal platform. Split pedals offer independent movement options, but that extra flexibility requires appropriate coaching and spring selection. A split-pedal model is not automatically better for new clients. Confirm with your teaching team that the additional modes fit the programme before paying for them.

When are handles useful?

Some chairs include or accept support handles for selected assisted and balance-oriented exercises. If handles feature in the programme, compare MVe Single-Pedal with Handles or the split-pedal handled version against handle-free chairs. Do not assume that handles shown in marketing photography are always supplied with another SKU.

MVe vs Artistry construction

The MVe line uses a portable, stackable aluminium-framed approach suited to commercial studio operations. Artistry chairs use a more classical solid-wood construction with different form factors and storage expectations. A Wunda chair's ability to change between a sitting and working configuration, for example, is not the same as a stackable MVe unit. Review assembly and freight information for the exact chair.

Room and operational planning

  1. Measure equipment width and depth plus space needed for the actual movements and instructor access.
  2. Determine if stations must be stacked, moved or kept in fixed positions.
  3. Check maximum supported user load and spring operating instructions in the current manual.
  4. Confirm the delivered accessory package, including any handles, brackets and springs.
  5. Plan cleaning, equipment inspection and maintenance between sessions.

Frequently asked questions

Can a chair replace a reformer?

No. It provides different exercise options, body support and resistance arrangements, so decide against your lesson plan rather than assuming equivalence.

Is a split-pedal chair unsafe for beginners?

Not inherently, but exercise complexity should be controlled by a qualified instructor. The chair's extra features do not mean all exercises are beginner-appropriate.

Compare the wider Pilates equipment collection, read the home studio guide, and check the manufacturer's current manuals before ordering.
