Yes — any launch monitor that outputs to a PC or simulator via its software will work. The projector connects to the PC running the sim software via HDMI.

What golfers say about Optoma ZU820TST WUXGA 8200 Lumen Laser Short-Throw Projector — Golf Simulator

Collected from manufacturer and distributor listings for this product.

Airport departure lounge display. We needed high output, short throw to fit the ceiling geometry, and continuous operation reliability. The ZU820TST has been running 18 hours a day for four months without any issue. That is what commercial specification means in practice.

We do simulation training for emergency services. The environment needs to feel real, which means bright visuals even with overhead lights on. Short-throw keeps the beam away from trainees and 8200 lumens makes the scene convincing. It has changed how effective the training feels.
Station Cmdr. R. WebbDecember 2025
Planetarium renovation. We needed maximum brightness in a short throw format for the dome geometry. The ZU820TST is running the show every session and the image quality is significantly better than the unit it replaced. Visitor feedback has been noticeably more positive.

8,200 lumens short-throw laser — this is the spec you want for a commercial simulator bay that can't go fully dark. We run it in a venue with overhead lighting on and the image stays punchy and defined. WUXGA is plenty for simulation graphics. Zero maintenance with the laser source. Very satisfied.

Specified this for a high-end home simulator install. The client wanted zero projector visible in the room — short-throw projector design means it sits on a low shelf and the screen becomes the focal point. Image quality at 120" is superb. Client loved the result. Would specify again without hesitation.

Three months in our commercial golf facility and running perfectly. The brightness handles our open-plan environment. 8,200 lumens sounds like overkill until you see what it does to image quality in a lit room — everything stays crisp and saturated. Worth the investment for a professional result.
